Why have a natural burial?

Since the beginning
Shrouds represent one of the oldest burial practices in human history. Many individuals today opt for this choice for themselves or their loved ones.

A green or natural burial emphasizes simplicity, and the return of the body to nature, causing minimal environmental impact.
A hundred and fifty years ago most burials were in fact, what we now call 'green'.
A natural burial does not permit any toxic and non-decomposable materials. The body is placed in the earth inside a fully biodegradable shroud or coffin without the use of embalming fluids and 'vaults', a concrete, metal or plastic structure the shrouded body or coffin is place inside that prevents the earth above from sinking. This is a common practice in many cemeteries and done entirely for the aesthetics of the cemetery.
Green burial is gaining popularity because they tend to be lower in cost and have a lower environmental impact. In fact green burial cemeteries preserve the natural ecology preventing future human encroachment. The goal of a natural burial is complete decomposition allowing the body to recycle naturally into nature.
